Francis Kennard

QUINCY — Francis E. Kennard, 84, of Quincy, formerly of Rock Falls, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.

Born July 22, 1928, in Seward, Neb., to Arthur and Ida (Magwitz) Kennard, he married Helen McKown Aug. 25, 1962, in Morrison. She preceded him in death on Oct. 12, 2008.

He served in the U.S. Air Force as a master sergeant. He worked at Frantz Manufacturing in Sterling until his retirement.

He was a member of Rock Falls American Legion Post 902.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol (Dan) Merrill of Ohio, Ill., and Susan Kennard of Virginia; four sons, Herbert (Deb) Hallen of Dover, Robert (Sherry) Kennard of Sterling, Martin Kennard of Virginia and Arthur Kennard of Virginia; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Wilma Karns of Morrison; a special aunt, Doris Magwitz of Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Shane Kennard; and five sisters.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Garland Funeral Home, Walnut, with the Rev. Katie Voigt of the Red Oak United Methodist Church, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Limerick Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by Rock Falls American Legion Post 902.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy or the Rock Fall American Legion.
