PRINCETON — Bureau County theater enthusiasts recently enjoyed a tour to Chicago to see the Stephen Sondheim musical, “Sunday in the Park With George” at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater on Navy Pier.
Enroute the group stopped at the Art Institute to see and learn more about the famous Georges Seurat painting, “Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,” which inspired the musical. The tour was organized by the Illinois Theatre Conservatory (ITC), the theatre arts education arm of the Princeton Theatre Group.
After the performance, the group was able to meet with actor Jason Danieley, who played the title character, painter Georges Seurat. The opportunity to chat with Danieley about the play and his theater career was arranged by ITC committee member Barbara Haurberg, a personal friend of Danieley’s.
The ITC, which promotes theatre arts education for children and adults, and Festival 56, Princeton’s annual professional theatre festival, are both endeavors of the Princeton Theatre Group, a non-profit arts organization.
