SPRINGFIELD — Robert D. “Dan” Haney, 81, of Springfield passed away at 9:41 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at his daughter's home in Princeton.
Born Sept. 28, 1931, in Chicago to Elmore and Patrina Cook Haney Sr., he married Mildred Cooney of Jacksonville July 3, 1965. She died Nov. 19, 2006.
He was raised in Bureau and graduated from Hall High School in Spring Valley. He retired after 32 years of service from AT&T where he worked in research and development as a manager. In his early days, he worked for the railroad in Bureau. He also had acquired his private pilot license.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the DAV and American Legion.
Surviving are one daughter, Terri Gray of Princeton; three granddaughters, Amber and Kim Gray of Princeton, and Tricia Strickler of McNabb; one great-grandchild, Alex; one brother, Elmore Haney of League City, Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Frank Haney.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
