Tiskilwa Historical Society completes project

TISKILWA — The Tiskilwa Historical Society took on a project about two years ago to identify the location of country schools by installing a sign at the site. They included all the country schools in three townships — Arispie, Indiantown and Wheatland.

There were 15 schools in total that fed into the Tiskilwa School district. The group just recently installed the last two school signs so the project is complete. There are maps available at Museum on Main in Tiskilwa for a driving tour of all the school locations.

Jan Lohaus, Tiskilwa Historical Society board member, said “I want to thank all those who helped with the project — researching photos and locations, designing and proofing the signs, landowners permission, installing the signs and many more. I hope you enjoy the signs and they bring back memories for some.”
