Bureau County Democrats watched the election results come in and celebrated their victories at a party at Verucchi's Restaurant in Spring Valley Tuesday. Rep. Frank Mautino (from left), Billy Cruz, Buzzy Verucchi and Rick Wilkin kept close track as the results came in. Mautino won re-election to the Illinois House over Donald Jensen.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger won election to Illinois' new 16th Congressional District, handily defeating Democratic candidate Wanda Rohl with almost 62 percent of the vote, 179,123 to 110,378.

Locally, Kinzinger won in Bureau County with 62 percent of the vote to Rohl's 38 percent.

Kinzinger had represented a portion of Bureau County in the old 11th District. Redistricting put all of Bureau County in the new 16th District. Kinzinger defeated incumbent Don Manzullo in the March 20 Republican primary.

Turning to the Illinois General Assembly, Bureau County's senators and representatives will all be returning to Springfield.

Incumbent Sen. Sue Rezin defeated Democratic challenger Christine Benson for the 38th Senate Seat. Rezin won with 53.7 percent of the vote, 46,790 to 40,367.

In Bureau County, Benson outpaced Rezin with 57.8 percent of the vote.

In the 74th House District, incumbent Rep. Don Moffitt defeated Atkinson mayor August Junior with 64.8 percent of the vote, 33,970 to 18,492.

Locally, Moffitt defeated Junior with almost 66 percent of the vote.

In the 76th District, incumbent Rep. Frank Mautino defeated Republican challenger Donald Jensen with 63.1 percent of the vote, 28,065 to 16,379.

Locally, Mautino defeated Jensen with 73.6 percent of the vote.

Sen. Darin LaHood of the 37th Senate District and Rep. David Leitch of the 73rd House District were unopposed in their bids for re-election.
