Local voter turnout exceeds 2008

While national voter turnout was down for Tuesday's election, Bureau County voters turned out in higher percentages than for the 2008 presidential election.

Preliminary numbers released by Bureau County Clerk Kami Hieronymus' office showed 16,685 of the county's 23,588 registered voters cast a ballot in Tuesday's election.

That equals a figure of 70.7 percent, compared to the 64 percent who voted in 2008.
