Area teams tip off season at PHS
The 2012-13 prep basketball season will tip off Monday at Prouty Gymnasium for the start of the Princeton High School Athletic Booster Club sponsored annual Holiday Tournament, where three area teams will open up the new season.
This year’s tournament, which runs from Nov. 12-17, has been restructured into pool play. Erie, Henry-Senachwine, LaMoille/Ohio and Princeton make up the Blue Pool with Putnam County, Stark County, Bureau Valley and Midland in the White Pool.
The host Tigresses are the defending champions, having defeated Stark County for the championship a year ago.
Opening night games match Henry vs. Erie at 5 p.m., Stark County vs. Bureau Valley at 6:30 p.m. and Princeton vs. LaMoille/Ohio at 8 p.m.
At Oregon: Hall jumps into the season at the Oregon Tip-Off Tournament, which begins Wednesday. The Lady Devils take the first night off, coming back to face Fulton on Thursday and Mendota on Friday, both 5:45 p.m. tips.
The F/S also play in the tournament, which concludes with finals on No. 17.
• At Brimfield: The St. Bede Lady Bruins will tip off their season at home Tuesday vs. Wethersfield. St. Bede then returns to the Brimfield Turkey Tournament for the second season, starting Friday.
The tournament is set up for round-robin play with the Lady Bruins tangling with Elmwood at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Brimfield at 3 p.m Nov. 17, Kewanee at 6 p.m. Nov. 21, Wethersfield at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 23 and Princeville at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 24.
Last-second shots: The DePue Lady Little Giants start up its season at home Tuesday under first-year coach Jim Barto vs. Putnam County. ... Boys hoops start up the following week with Princeton at home Nov. 19 to tip off the Sauk Valley Shootout vs. Morrison. The Tigers will also play at Rock Falls (Nio. 20) and three nights at Sterling (Nov. 21, 23-24). At other tournament sites, Hall wil be at Seneca (Nov. 19-24), Bureau Valley returns to Wethersfield (Nov. 19-24) under first-year coach Jason Marquis, and the LaMoille/Ohio Lions will be at AFC (Nov. 19-24), St. Bede will be at the Coal City Invite (Nov. 20-24).
