PRINCETON — The fifth annual Northern Illinois Model Train Fair and Farm Toy Show will be Saturday at the Bureau County Fairgrounds in Princeton.
This is the perfect opportunity for train lovers to see model trains in action on one of the working train layouts. There will be a 36-foot-long working HO train layout and a working N Scale layout plus a Lionel set with lots of fun train cars that the kids will enjoy.
Newly added this year is a 1/8 scale train that will be giving rides for the kids. Larry Johnson of Princeton will have his train set up inside one of the exhibit halls and the kids will be able to ride on one of his home built train cars.
Another new addition this year will be a scenic display of a logging saw mill camp which was built by Bill Michaels. Michaels is one of the disc jockeys from the Dwyer and Michaels show from Radio Station 97X in the Quad Cities. Michaels has spent the past two years working on this layout. He recently won a national Best of Show award at the Fine Scale Modelers Convention. The detail in this layout is simply amazing and has to be seen to be appreciated.
This will be the place to do the Christmas shopping for the boys (and men) on your shopping list. There will be lots of train cars, engines, new and antique train sets and track for sale. Vendors will also have airplanes, Cat equipment, and farm toys and accessories for sale. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The fairgrounds is located at 811 W. Peru St. in Princeton and there will be three huge heated buildings with items in them. Admission for adults is $4 and kids are free. There will be a concession stand in the building. The Princeton Christmas Open House will also be going on Saturday so the ladies will have some place to shop while the kids enjoy the trains.
