The Bureau Valley North eighth-grade social studies class held a mock election on Election Day. The polling place consisted of election judges and poll watchers who guided the students from kindergarten to eighth grade through the voting process. The election authority spent the last week going from classroom to classroom explaining the electoral college and registering the students. After the polls closed, the tally judges went to work counting ballots. Each classroom had five electoral votes and it was a “winner takes all” system. The faculty and staff also had five electoral votes. In the electoral count, President Obama won with 70 electoral votes while Mitt Romney received 25 electoral votes. In the popular vote, President Obama won with 207 votes and Mitt Romney received 173 votes.
