Tigresses trip Lady Lions in tourney opener

PRINCETON — The Princeton Tigresses opened the 2012 Princeton Holiday Tournament with a 48-33 win over LaMoille/Ohio in the nightcap of Monday’s opening night at Prouty Gym.
The Tigresses used a 30-19 second-half advantage to pull away to victory.
“I knew Dick’s girls would give us a good battle and play hard, because they always do. Both teams played well for the first game of the season,” PHS coach Kevin Hieronymus said.
Senior Makenzey Wilson led the Tigresses with 11 points and junior Zoe Mead added nine points and 17 rebounds to lead the Tigresses. Emmalee Sears had nine points and Abby Jaques added eight points for PHS.
The Lady Lions got 11 points each from Elizabeth Geuther and Shiela Browning.
In other action Monday, Stark County defeated Bureau Valley 46-11 and Erie was a 45-20 winner over Henry-Senachwine. On Tuesday, Putnam County edged Tri-County Conference rival Midland 39-37 in the first game for both teams.
Tourney notes: The tournament, sponsored by the Princeton Booster Club, resumes Thursday night in pool play with Stark County facing Midland at 5 p.m., Bureau Valley playing Putnam County at 6:30 p.m. and Princeton meeting Henry at 8 p.m. Pool play will conclude with three more games Friday leading into Saturday’s final round beginning at 3 p.m. Erie stands at 2-0 in the Blue Pool with Stark County and Putnam County both at 1-0 in the White. … Tommy Rose, WZOE’s morning man, debuted as the Prouty PA Monday and Tuesday nights. Roger Low, the former voice of Tigress basketball, retired from teaching after the 2011-12 school year.
