PRINCETON — The combined November and December meeting of the Bureau County Genealogical Society will be Thursday at the society library, 629 S. Main St. in Princeton.
The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a social hour. Members and the public are invited to be a part of this opening activity. Those attending are asked to bring a finger food to share buffet style.
The regular meeting will begin at 7 p.m. with a brief business meeting that will include the election of officers. The main speaker for the evening will be Roger Moore of Rock Falls.
Moore is a retired farmer who has spent 30 years researching and compiling his family history. He will share some of his research and explain how he put it together. His Moore line in the county goes back to 1832 when Eli Moore bought land in the Sheffield area of the county for $1.25 an acre. Other Bureau County surnames pertaining to Moore’s research include Flint, Carlson, Norton, Cooper, Pierson, Harlan and Lemke. Moore has contributed two volumes of his research results to the BCGS library.
Members and guests are also encouraged to bring for display family history interest projects that they have completed during the past year. These projects may be on display before and after the meeting. If time permits, individuals may also briefly describe their achievements for the audience.
