IVSO to perform holiday concert in Princeton

PRINCETON — The Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra will present its holiday concert at 4 p.m. Dec. 8 in the Princeton High School auditorium.

Under the direction of IVSO Music Director and Conductor Lucia Matos, the concert will feature many holiday favorites including, Berlin’s White Christmas, A Canadian Brass Christmas, Sleigh Ride by Anderson, Carol of the Bells, and a special narration of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas by Princeton Mayor Keith Cain.

Susan Nelson is the concert’s guest soloist. A captivating soprano, Nelson will perform Silent Night, O Little Town of Bethlehem and Bach Christmas Cantata 133; Wie Lieblich Klingt. Nelson was born and raised in Princeton. At Princeton High School, she sang in the Concert Choir, Madrigal Singers and the Ladies’ Ensemble.

Nelson has been praised by critics for her “full, powerful voice – agile and pliant” as well as her interpretations, called both “sensitive and moving” and “full of life and vigor.” She showcases versatility and vocal beauty in repertoire from Bach and Mozart to verismo and contemporary opera. Nelson’s concert appearances include performances of Handel’s Messiah, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem and Vesperae solemnes de confessore, Bach’s Magnificat, Rossini’s Stabat Mater, and Schubert’s Mirjams Siegegesang.Ms. Nelson’s busy schedule has also included Estelle in No Exit with Chicago Opera Vanguard, the title role of Rusalka with Opera for the Young, the Mistress in Peter and Paul in the Land of Nod with Chicago Folks Operetta, Micaëla in Carmen with Bowen Park Opera, and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte with Opera Illinois.

Tickets are available at Heartland Bank and Trust Company, the Princeton Chamber of Commerce, online at IVSO website, www.ivso.org, and at the door. Admission is $12 for adults, $5 for students K-college with ID, and season subscribers.

There is no reserved seating. Princeton High School is handicapped accessible.
