On Thursday the nation will celebrate Thanksgiving, and no doubt, turkeys like the ones pictured here will be on the dinner table in many homes across the country.

According to recent statistics, Americans will gobble up more than 46 millions turkeys on Thanksgiving, which equates to about three pounds of poultry per person who participates in the feast. With an average turkey weight of 16 pounds, last year’s Thanksgiving turkeys weighed in collectively at 736 million pounds; in dollars and cents, that equals about $875 million spent on the traditional birds. But Thanksgiving isn’t the only time of the year the nation indulges in turkey. More than 226 million turkeys were consumed last year in the United States, which includes 19 million at Easter and 22 million at Christmas. But regardless of whether your Thanksgiving feast is draped in tradition with a turkey with all the fixings, the food should be secondary to the love of family and friends who gather at your table. May we all count our blessings daily, and may you and your have a wonderful and memorable Thanksgiving Day.
