Lady Bruins open 1-1 at Elmwood

The St. Bede Lady Bruins opened the Elmwood Thanksgiving Tournament with one win and a loss over the weekend.

Lydia Stariha scored 13 points and Laura Sickley added 11 to lead the Lady Bruins to a 61-24 win over Elmwood in Friday’s opener.

On Saturday, the Lady Bruins fell to Brimfield 70-63, despite a big night from center Mo Dean, who scored 24 points. Also for SBA, Whitley Funfsinn netted 10 points and Raley Mauck and Sickley had nine each.

St. Bede will return to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday vs. Kewanee.

At Orion: Annawan rolled to a 48-13 win over Geneseo in tournament action Saturday. Celina VanHyfte had 15 points

Junior college

At Oglesby: IVCC defeated Waubonsee 60-51 Saturday to win the championship game of their own tournament. St. Bede product Alec Schwab had 14 points and Princeton’s Michael Murray added 10.
