Monday night sports update
Brett Fanning and the Hall Red Devils had a grand opening at the Seneca Turkey Tournament Monday.
Fanning poured in 32 points to lead the Red Devils in a 92-70 win over Reed-Custer. He had some fast company with teammates Landon Piccatto scoring 17 points, Matt Boucher 12 and Miguel Villareal 11.
Hall will face Somonauk at 5:30 p.m. back in Seneca.
At Wethersfield: The Storm used some sophomore strength to power past Annawan 68-38 with Parker Neuhalfen and Tommy Johnston scoring 18 points each.
Michael Smith led tghe Braves with 12 points.
The Storm return to Wethersfield to face the host Flying Geese at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
At Princeton: The Tigers opened up Sauk Valley Shootout play with a 63-31 win over Morrison at Prouty Gym Monday. The Tigers raced out to a 19-0 lead and never looked back.
Zach Stroud had 12 points and Cole Evenson added 11, with Aaron Ray, Austen Stewart, Josh Kieffer and Austin Mack adding seven each.
The PHS Kittens also won big in the sophomore prelim, scoring a 62-41 win over Morrison. Garrett Duffin had 22 points, Tyler Clark 15 and Brenton Schmidt 11.
Both PHS squads travel to Rock Falls Tuesday night.
Girls' basketball
R-B/L-W 55, DePue 13: Alicia Marquez scored nine points for the Lady Giants in Monday's season opener at DePue.
Galva 40, Bureau Valley 38: The Storm kept up its busy schedule with a trip to Galva Monday, falling by two points. Nicole Bornsheuer had a game-high 13 points and Katelin Johnson and Heaven Bennett added eight each.
Annawan 80, LaMoille/Ohio 36: Shiela Browning netted 13 points for the Lady Lions at LaMoille Monday. L/O will take a break for Thanksgiving and return to action Nov. 26.
St. Bede 51, Somonauk 50: The Lady Bruins trailed by 11 points with about four minutes left and rallied for the win on the road on Monday on Raley Mauck's game-winner with 4.4 seconds left on the clock.
"It was a great win with a ton of contributions from everyone throughout the game. It was a gut-check game, and one of those can make a team catch fire and know what they can get done when they work hard at it," SBA coach Tom McGunnigal said.
Senior center Mo Dean led the Lady Bruins with 15 points and Laura Sickley added 10.
