Fanning nets 32; Kilmartin records 400th career win

Brett Fanning and the Hall Red Devils had a grand opening at the Seneca Turkey Tournament Monday.

Fanning poured in 32 points to lead the Red Devils in a 92-70 win over Reed-Custer. He had some fast company with teammates Landon Piccatto scoring 17 points, Matt Boucher 12 and Miguel Villareal 11.

Somonauk brought Hall off cloud 9 by handing the Red Devils a 58-50 defeat Tuesday, rallying from a 41-38 deficit at the end of three quarters. Fanning came back with 24 points, including five 3-pointers.

Hall will return to action at 4:30 p.m. Friday against Illiana Christian, which has won its first two tourney games.

At Coal City

St. Bede 47, Morris 45: The Bruins gave coach Mike Kilmartin his 400th career victory in its tournament debut Tuesday at Coal City. When asked what it means to him to win No. 400, Kilmartin said, “I don’t know, I’ve never done it before.”

He added,”I am honored to have some great players and a few superstars to have worked with.”

Damin Smith had 15 points and Joe Pyszka 14.

At Ashton

Polo 82, LaMoille/Ohio 59: Brandon Morris had 15 points and 10 rebounds and freshman Josh Gross added 15 points in defeat for the Lions Tuesday.

Girls’ basketball

R-B/L-W 55, DePue 13: Alicia Marquez scored nine points for the Lady Giants in Monday’s season opener at DePue.

Galva 40, Bureau Valley 38: Nicole Bornsheuer had a game-high 13 points and Katelin Johnson and Heaven Bennett added eight each on the road Monday.

Prophetstown 65, Bureau Valley 14: The Storm were shut out 46-0 in the first half Tuesday. Nicole Bornsheuer had eight points.

Annawan 80, LaMoille/Ohio 36: Shiela Browning netted 13 points for the Lady Lions at LaMoille Monday. L/O will take a break for Thanksgiving and return to action Monday.

St. Bede 51, Somonauk 50: The Lady Bruins trailed by 11 points with about four minutes left and rallied for the win on the road on Monday on Raley Mauck’s game-winner with 4.4 seconds left on the clock.

“It was a great win with a ton of contributions from everyone throughout the game. It was a gut-check game, and one of those can make a team catch fire and know what they can get done when they work hard at it,” SBA coach Tom McGunnigal said.

Senior center Mo Dean led the Lady Bruins with 15 points and Laura Sickley added 10.
