Spring Valley and electric aggregation

SPRING VALLEY — Spring Valley residents should have started seeing savings on their electric bills.

Spring Valley was one of four Bureau County communities approving referendums last spring, which gave village officials the authority to arrange for an electric aggregation program to supply electricity for residents and small commercial retail customers who have not opted out of the program.

According to the city and its consultant, Rock River Energy Services, Spring Valley had 2,509 residential and small commercial electric accounts. Of that number, 225 accounts had already switched to another retail electric supplier, and were not eligible to be automatically enrolled in the community program with Homefield Energy.

Spring Valley has 1,942 accounts that were automatically enrolled in the program, with 208 accounts opting out, and another 134 opt out notices were returned by the post office as undeliverable. Ninety percent of eligible accounts who received the notices were enrolled in the program.

The annualized savings, per single-family household, based on actual 2011 load usage data for Spring Valley is estimated at $108, for a 22 percent savings. This will result in an estimated $246,000 community-wide savings.

Power flow with Homefield Energy began this summer and savings were reflected on the Ameren bills that were received last summer. Residential and small commercial electric accounts in the city who did not receive an original notice can call Homefield Energy at 866-694-1262, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday to enroll their account.
