4-H will offer holiday gift workshops for area youth

4-Hers from the University of Illinois Extension - Bureau, LaSalle, Marshall, Putnam Unit are learning about gift giving and making their own holiday gifts during the month of December.

Three workshops will be available for youth ages 8-18. Dates are place are; Dec. 1, 9 a.m. to noon at the Bureau County Extension office, 850 Thompson St. in Princeton; Dec. 8, 9 a.m. to noon at the LaSalle County Extension office, 1689 N. 31st Road in Ottawa; and Dec. 15, 9 a.m. to noon at the Marshall-Putnam Extension office, 509 Front St. in Henry.

Youth attending the workshops will make a variety of gifts to share with family and friends this holiday season.

Each workshop may feature slightly different projects. The goal of the workshops is to encourage generosity while showing youth how they can share their creative talents with others.

The fee for the workshop is $10 for 4-H members and $15 for non-members, to cover project supplies. Participants should also bring a box to take their completed projects home. The workshop is open to all youth ages 8-18 or in third grade and above as of Sept. 1, 2012.

Advance registration is required; to register, call the extension office hosting the workshop you wish to attend: Bureau County, 815-875-2878 for the Dec. 1 session; LaSalle County, 815-433-0707 for the Dec. 8 session; and Marshall and Putnam counties, 309-364-2356 for the Dec. 15 session. Anyone needing a reasonable accommodation to participate, should indicate when registering.
