Retired teachers hear program on legislative issues

PRINCETON — The Oct. 18 luncheon meeting of the Bureau County Retired Teachers Association was held at the Princeton Public Library. A business meeting was conducted, followed by a presentation on Illinois legislative issues.

Illinois Reps. Frank Mautino of the 76th Representative District and Donald L. Moffitt of the 74th Representative District presented views on important issues that the Illinois General Assembly will be facing as legislators return to Springfield in January 2013.

The state of Illinois has a debt problem and continues to face ongoing fiscal issues that prevent running state government responsibly and efficiently. The deficits are almost insurmountable. Consequently, reductions, cutbacks and methods of funding are all on the table relative to any changes that can aid Illinois in meeting its fiscal responsibilities. Fiscal year 2013 does not look too promising.
