Christmas service

SHEFFIELD — The annual interdenominational Christmas service at the historic St. Peter’s Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sheffield will be at 2 p.m. Sunday. Area clergy and several area musicians will participate in the event. Refreshments will be served at the Sheffield Community Center, 121 S. Church St., immediately after the service.

Support group

PRINCETON — Bureau Valley Volunteer Hospice will host its monthly grief and loss support group at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 18 in the chapel at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. Anyone that has lost a loved one is invited to attend.

Santa in Sheffield

SHEFFIELD — Santa will stop for a visit at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sheffield Community Center.

Bake sale benefit

LADD — A bake sale to benefit Kelly (Daugherty) Merkel, who has been diagnosed with cervical cord lymphoma, will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the North Central Bank of Ladd and from 5:30 a.m. to noon Sunday at Torri’s Restaurant. Proceeds will help the family defray the bi-monthly trips Kelly will take to the Mayo Clinic where she has been undergoing chemotherapy since September. There will be the usual cookies and candy, and also baklava, tacos, breads, German potato salad, soup, party mix and more. For more information, call Jane Merkel at 815-915-5877 or 815-447-2877.

Monthly luncheon

PRINCETON — The Hampshire Woman’s Circle will meet for its monthly business luncheon meeting at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ye Old Underground Inn in Princeton. To confirm attendance if you did not sign up at the November meeting, call hostess Marvalyn Himes at 815-872-5731 or hostess Marge Johnson at 815-875-2276. Remaining Mission Money will be collected and the usual business will be discussed. All women of the Hampshire Colony Congregational Church are welcome to attend.

Special event

OHIO, Ill. — Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton will sponsor a “Pink Night” on Dec. 18 at the LaMoille/Ohio Lions basketball game at Ohio High School. The fresh/soph basketball game begins at 6 p.m. with the varsity game beginning at 7:30 p.m. Those that wear pink to the game will have the opportunity to register for a door prize. In addition, Perry will be giving out educational material regarding breast cancer and the importance of self breast exams.
