PRINCETON — Today, Thursday, After School Crafts will be offered at the Princeton Public Library from 3:30 to 5 p.m.; and the Journeys: Dinner Table Program: Come and Get It will be held at 6:30 p.m. Robert Dirks, emeritus professor of anthropology, Illinois State University, discusses the changing foodways of the Midwest, from self-sufficiency to fast food and supermarket convenience foods. The program is hosted by the Bureau County Farm Bureau.
On Saturday, Praise and Coffee will meet at 9:30 a.m.
On Monday, JV Enterprises will meet at 4 p.m.; and the Journey Stories movie will be shown at 6:30 p.m. “The Straight Story” tells the story of an old man who makes a long journey by tractor to mend his relationship with an ill brother.
On Tuesday, the Preschool Story Hour will be held with the theme reindeer, and there will be music with Miss Cheryl. All area preschoolers and their parents or guardians are welcome to attend. Also, Journey with Kit, Ruthie, Molly and Emily the American Girls will be at 3:30 p.m. Learn abut life during the Great Depression while experiencing hands-on baking and how these times affected the way meals were prepared with Rachel Bystry. Also, “The Iron Path: The Hidden History of the Railroads of Illinois will be presented by Simon Cordery at 6:30 p.m. Cordery surveys the expansion of the railroad in the Land of Lincoln and how it fits into the pattern of national railroad development and the significance of railroads in 19th century politics. Sponsored by Friends in Council.
On Wednesday, the Crafters Club will meet from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the Journeys Matinee “An American Tale” will be shown at 1:30 p.m. While emigrating to the United States, a young Russian mouse gets separated from his family and must locate them while trying to survive in a new country.
On Dec. 6, United Health Care will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and a Dinner Table Program will be held at 6:30 p.m. Salmagundi - a Feast of Celebrations will include members of the Princeton area community sharing their holiday traditions from around the world with accompanying tabletop displays.
SPRING VALLEY — Story time with Ms. Jeri is held at the Richard A. Mautino Memorial Library every Tuesday from 5:30 until 6 p.m. in the children’s room. There is a story and a craft-related project during this time for preschool children through third grade. A parent must accompany their child. This is free of charge.
Today, Thursday, is “Trim our tree party.” Bring your family and help us decorate our Christmas tree! Christmas music, cookies and games will be offered. Join us and get in the Christmas spirit. We are asking each family to donate one Christmas ornament for our tree that will used year after year. Feel free to mark your ornament with your family’s name. OHIO — Ohio Public Library will host a gingerbread house project workshop at 10 a.m. Saturday. Participants will make their own gingerbread houses during this project. Please sign up at the library as soon as possible.
There have been a number of new books and DVDs that have arrived at the library in the last month.
For children, there are books featuring Scooby-Doo, Thomas the Tank Engine, Batman, Amelia Bedelia, Curious George, Biscuit the dog, and several other storybooks that range from a disorderly alphabet in “Alpha Oops,” to a jittery July in “July Jitters.” There are also some nice non-fiction books that examine different horse breeds.
For DVDs, there are “Scooby’s All Star Laff-A-Lympics,” “Hoodwinked,” “Secondhand Lions,” “Full Metal Jacket,” “The Campaign,” “Reef 2: High Tide,” and “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted.” Stop by and let the librarian know if you would like to see a book or DVD added to the library’s collection.
LADD — The Ladd Public Library will hold its holiday open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 9. The Ladd Community Consolidated School Choir will provide entertainment. There will be a make and take craft for the children, a drawing for door prizes and refreshments will be served. Cookbooks will also be available for sale. “We look forward to visiting with everyone and sharing some holiday cheer!” said library director Amy Galetti-Bosi.
Also, the cookbook project which started this past summer has come to its conclusion. The cookbooks have arrived and are available for sale. The book titled, “A Taste of Ladd” is a combination of treasured recipes, such as Polenta, Bagna Caulda, and Zuccarines and new favorites to try, such as Peanut Butter Pie, Mountain Dew Dumplings, and Buffalo Chicken Dip. This book is packed with 487 recipes contributed by the residents of Ladd and surrounding communities. Copies of the book are currently priced at $14 with a special “buy 10, get 1 free” offer and may be purchased at the Ladd Public Library, Ladd Village Hall or Special Effects.
The library continues to hold its pre-school story times on the first and third Monday of each month at 10:30 a.m. Book club meetings are held on the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The current book club selection is “The Beginner’s Goodbye” by Anne Tyler.

WYANET — The Raymond A. Sapp Library’s computer class will meet at 1 p.m. Dec. 11. Bring any and all questions or requests for help. Dorene Stalter will do her best, who is always excellent, to get them answered.
The library will take a month hiatus from its 2nd Thursday@the Library and its Book Group, although the Book Group will be having a luncheon to celebrate the year.
In January, look for more info on the 2nd Thursday@the Library program. Monika Sudakov will be making something tasty for the audience participants on Jan. 10, 2013. Stay tuned!
TISKILWA — The Tiskilwa Public Library would like to extend an invitation to its Christmas Open House from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 8. Hot cider and cookies will be served.
