Monday night basketball roundup
The Hall Lady Devils defended the homecourt Monday, defeating Bureau Valley 36-29 at Red Devil Gymnasium.
Kaylee Golden (12) and Becca Herrmann (10) paced the Lady Devils in the scoring column, combining for 22 points. Brenna Faletti chipped in six points.
For BV, Lacy DeVenney had eight points and Nicole Bornsheuer added seven.
St. Bede 53, Newman 37: The St. Bede Lady Bruins opened up a 27-19 halftime lead on the strength of a 10-4 second quarter and never looked up on the way to a 53-37 win over Sterling Newman at the Academy Monday.
The St. Bede defense limited the Lady Comets to four free throws in the second, while stretching a two-point lead to eight at the break. At the other end of the court, the Lady Bruins dropped seven three-point bombs on Newman in the first half alone. They finished the night with nine treys.
Marisa Hermosillo had 14 points and Lydia Stariha 13 for the Lady Bruins. Raley Mauck helped seal the deal with all eight of her points coming in the fourth quarter, including 4 of 4 shooting from the free-throw line.
Amboy 55, LaMoille/Ohio 31: Kaitlyn Liebing scored 22 points and Autumn Smith (13) and Tori Welch (11) combined for 24 to lead the Lady Clippers to victory at LaMoille Monday. Shiela Browning led the Lady Lions (0-6) with nine points and Kaitlyn Hughes added six points with eight rebounds.
"It is is still a work in progress. We need to focus on rebounds and shots. The girls never quit," L/O coach Dick Gross said.
Putnam County 53, Indian Creek 41: The Lady Panthers pullled ahead with a 17-6 surge in the fourth quarter at Shabbona Monday. They made 10 of 16 free throws down the stretch, Daniela Pavlovich tallied 29 points for PC.
Pontiac 72, Princeton 17: Zoe Mead led the Tigresses with six points at Prouty Gym Monday.
Henry 45, Galva 39: The Mallards outscored the Wildcats 20-10 in the fourth quarter to make off with the Williamsfield Tournament championship. Nathan Helle led the Mallards with 20 points, including eight in the fourth quarter. Kyle Henderson also tallied six of his 13 points in the final frame.
