Hygienic Institute in LaSalle adds nurse practitioner

LASALLE — The Hygienic Institute has added another nurse practitioner to its medical staff and expanded its hours to make more appointment slots available for patients at the community health clinic in LaSalle.

Nelle Barnes, APN, joins Maryfran Crist, APN, and Dr. Kara Fess in receiving patients at the Hygienic Institute, which is now open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.

Barnes received her master of science in nursing degree in the family nurse practitioner sequence from the Mennonite College of Nursing at Illinois State University in May of this year. She also holds an associate’s degree from Illinois Valley Community College, a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from ISU and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing in Peoria.

Before coming to the Hygienic Institute, Barnes was a nurse in the emergency department at Illinois Valley Community Hospital. She had previously worked as a nurse in the surgical intensive care unit at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

The Hygienic Institute is a not-for-profit community health clinic affiliated with IVCH.
