PRINCETON — Today, Thursday, United Health Care will meet at the Princeton Public Library from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and a Dinner Table Program will be held at 6:30 p.m. Salmagundi — a Feast of Celebrations will include members of the Princeton area community sharing their holiday traditions from around the world with accompanying tabletop displays.
On Friday, the DAR will meet from 12:30 to 4 p.m.
On Monday, the BMP Special Ed Co-op will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the Monday night movie will be shown at 6:30 p.m. “Shane” tells of a weary gunfighter who attempts to settle down with a homestead family, but must face a smoldering settler/rancher conflict.
On Tuesday, the Preschool Story Hour will be held with the theme, “Bells.” All area preschoolers and their parents or guardians are welcome to attend. Also, Dangerous Path for Boys: Journeys during World War II will be at 3:30 p.m. Learn to write and decipher secret code and how to construct a bomb shelter at 6:30 p.m.; the PAHE Group will meet; and “The Storyteller’s Path: J.I. Lighthall’s Medicine Show” will be presented by storyteller and history buff Mick Henneberry. Henneberry will tell the true tale of Dr. J.I. Lighthall, born in Tiskilwa and a nationally known seller of patent medicines and Native American herbal remedies.
On Wednesday, the Central Bank Classic Club will meet from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and the Journeys Matinee “An American Tale: Fievel Goes West” will be shown at 1:30 p.m. A family of mice decides to move out west, unaware that they are falling into a trap perpetrated by a smooth talking cat.
On Dec. 13, there will be a Christmas After School Craft Day from 3:30 to 5 p.m.; the Early Beginnings Young Parenting Group will meet from 3:30 to 5 p.m.; and Deborrah Wyndham will present a piano program at 6:30 p.m. — Ragtime Journeys and Holiday Stories.
TISKILWA — The Tiskilwa Public Library would like to extend an invitation to its Christmas Open House from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Hot cider and cookies will be served.
Also, the library wants to help the needy this holiday season by donating to the Bureau County Food Pantry. Please bring in items to the library now through Dec. 19.

LADD — The Ladd Public Library will hold its Holiday Open House from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday. The Ladd Community Consolidated School Choir will be here to provide entertainment. There will be a make and take craft for the children, a drawing for door prizes, and refreshments will be served. Cookbooks will also be available for sale. “We look forward to visiting with everyone and sharing some holiday cheer!” said library Director Amy Galetti-Bosi.
Also, the cookbook project which started this past summer has come to its conclusion. The cookbooks have arrived and are available for sale. The book titled, “A Taste of Ladd” is a combination of treasured recipes such as Polenta, Bagna Caulda and Zuccarines and new favorites to try, such as Peanut Butter Pie, Mountain Dew Dumplings and Buffalo Chicken Dip. This book is packed with 487 recipes contributed by the residents of Ladd and surrounding communities. Copies of the book are currently priced at $14 with a special “buy 10, get 1 free” offer and may be purchased at the Ladd Public Library, Ladd Village Hall or Special Effects.
The library continues to hold its pre-school story times on the first and third Monday of each month at 10:30 a.m.. Book club meetings are held on the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The current book club selection is “The Beginner’s Goodbye” by Anne Tyler.

DEPUE — The Selby Township Library hosts a blood pressure and blood sugar screening clinic the second Tuesday of each month. Stop in anytime between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. to have your pressure and sugar checked by a health care professional. The clinic is provided by St. Margaret’s Health and is free and open to the public.
WYANET — The Raymond A. Sapp Library’s computer class will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Bring any and all questions or requests for help.
The library will take a month hiatus from its 2nd Thursday@the Library and its book group, although the book group will be having a luncheon to celebrate the year.
In January, look for more info on the 2nd Thursday@the Library program. Monika Sudakov will be making something tasty for the audience participants on Jan. 10, 2013. Stay tuned!
LAMOILLE — The LaMoille-Clarion Library now has Wi-fi available during library hours. There are also eight desktop computers for public use and one laptop available if all other computers are being used. Computer classes have also started. The library is offering classes on Tuesday from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. Classes will be ongoing, so there is still time to sign up. Beside computer basics, classes are also offered on how to use the new Cypress Resume program and how to research using A to Z the USA. If you just need a little help, stop by. Need help doing job searches, filling out on-line applications or any number of other computer related tasks? Let us help you.
Also, the Mitten Tree is back this year. “We are in an area that has been hard hit by the economy,” said library Director Joyce Sondgeroth. If you know of someone who could use some help making Christmas merrier for their children, the library has a confidential form you can fill out to place a mitten for that child on the library Christmas tree. The information is completely confidential. The mitten lists the child’s sex, age, size and likes or preferences if listed. Mittens can be taken off the tree, gifts purchased and returned unwrapped, along with the mitten, to the library for distribution to the contact person before Christmas. SPRING VALLEY — Story time with Ms. Jeri is held at the Richard A. Mautino Memorial Library every Tuesday from 5:30 until 6 p.m. in the children’s room. There is a story and a craft-related project during this time for preschool children through third grade. A parent must accompany their child. This is free of charge.
PERU — The Peru Public Library holds a story time for children ages 3 to 5 at 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday. Children will hear stories, sing songs, dance and learn finger plays. Registration is not required. Visit www.perulibrary.org or call 815-223-0229, ext. 5, for more information.
LASALLE — What is identity theft? Who are the victims? How can you avoid becoming a victim? What do you do if you become a victim? Staff from the Family Credit Management organization will be at the LaSalle Public Library at 6 p.m. Dec. 11 to answer these questions.
