WALNUT — Bureau Valley North first- through third-grade students were visited recently by the “germ experts,” Joy Jaraczewski and Becky Piano, from the Bureau County Health Department.

The “Glow-Germ” program was an interactive presentation that allowed students to discover firsthand the importance of proper hand washing in an entertaining way. With the use of glow-germ lotion to simulate “germs” and an ultraviolet lamp, kids saw how easy it is to miss germs if they do not take time to wash their hands the proper way. The presenters also shared the importance of keeping unclean hands away from the “T” zone (eyes, nose, and mouth) as that is where most germs enter our bodies, especially during the cold and flu season.
