ISP makes cannabis arrests

Two California men have been charged with drug possession after a traffic stop on Interstate 80.

At approximately 2:03 a.m. Dec. 4, the Illinois State Police were conducting routine patrols near Intertate 80 eastbound, Mile Post 72, when a vehicle was observed with no rear registration plate light. During the traffic stop, the LaSalle Police Department canine performed a free air sniff of the vehicle exterior and gave a positive alert for the odor of illegal drugs.

A probable cause search was conducted which revealed a black plastic box in the cargo area that contained 16.8 pounds of suspected cannabis.
