PRINCETON — Candidates for the April 2013 consolidated election can file their candidate packets starting Monday at their local election offices.

On Thursday, Bureau County Clerk Kami Hieronymus said elections to be determined on the April 9, 2013, consolidation election include those of school board members, village/city council members/trustees, township offices, and library board trustees, along with a few fire districts who have some elected positions.

On Dec. 2, Gov. Pat Quinn signed a bill moving the deadline to file petitions to run in the April 2013 election from 5 p.m. Dec. 24 to 5 p.m. Dec. 26.

Hieronymus said interested persons can still pick up candidate packets from their local election offices or clerks throughout the entire filing period, as long as the packets are completed and returned by 5 p.m. Dec. 26.

After the Dec. 26 deadline is reached, local election officials have a period of time before submitting the information to her office in case there are any withdrawals, objections, or a needed lottery to determine placement of names on the ballot, Hieronymus said. Candidate information should be at her office by mid-January, she said.

Among the open seats on the April 2013 ballot are 20 mayoral positions, 10 city/village clerk positions, an estimated 70 village board trustee/commissioner/alderman positions, 50 school board positions, and numerous library and township positions.
