PERU — Billie Jean (Underwood) Wortz, 87, of Peru passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Community Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Naperville.

Mrs. Wortz was born Oct. 1, 1925, in Chicago to Virgil and Annetta (Dickman) Underwood. She married Gordon H. Wortz on July 1, 1945, at home in Peru.

Mrs. Wortz worked as a licensed practical nurse at St. Mary’s, Peoples and Princeton hospitals. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru, Bureau VFW Auxiliary and Beta Sigma Phi, Zeta Zeta Chapter XP3622.  She was proud to have served as a ground observer during World War II.
