Jack Grant

HENNEPIN — Jack C. Grant, 67, of 229 S. Third St., Hennepin, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, in his home after a lengthy battle with Myelofibrosis.

Born Aug. 31, 1945, in Peru to Stanley and Frances (Sievers) Grant, he married Georgianne Stephanites Oct. 23, 1965. She survives.

He was a graduate of LaSalle-Peru High School and L.P.O. Junior College. He began his career as a State Farm Insurance agent in 1967. He opened his own office on Feb. 15, 1968, in Spring Valley, from which he retired on April 1, 2012, after 44 years of service.

He served the local community in many ways throughout his life, including various boards and committees. He served as a Hennepin Village Board trustee from 1974 to 1980, and as the mayor of Hennepin from 1980 to 1992. He held various offices as a former member of the First Baptist Church of LaSalle. He was secretary/treasurer for the Spring Valley Business Owner's Association from 1984 to 1994 and the Spring Valley Walleye Club from 1992 to 2002. He served eight years on the Hennepin Township Deck Scholarship Committee. He served on the St. Margaret's Hospital Board of Directors from 1991 to 1997 and served as chairman from 1993 to 1997. He served as Chairman of the Board for North Central Bank. In 1995, he was appointed by President Clinton to the local Selective Service Board. He was also in charge of shooting off the Hennepin Fourth of July fireworks display for 25 years.

Also surviving are one son, Michael (Sheryl) Grant of River Forest; one daughter, Jacquelin (Bradley) Holland of River Forest; five grandchildren, Jake, Joshua, Madelyn, George and Jack; three brothers, Robert of Lombard, Donald of Hennepin and James of Madison, Ind.; and one sister, Jean Trillet of Watseka.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Private family services will be held at the Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, with a memorial service to be held at a later date. Cremation was accorded.

Memorials may be directed to a fund established in his name for Myelofibrosis Research, in care of North Central Bank in Hennepin or Ladd.
