OHIO – The visiting Annawan Braves pulled away for a 70-43 win Tuesday night over the LaMoille/Ohio Lions in the first of two boys’ basketball home games played at Ohio High School this season.
L/O led, 6-3, early on, until the Braves definitely responded with a 17-3 run to take a 20-9 lead. Brandon Morris’ three-point play with a pair of seconds left in the first period made it a 20-12 Annawan lead after one quarter.
Another Morris basket seven seconds into the second quarter pulled LaMoille/Ohio to within six points, but Annawan managed to push in front by 10 points, 35-25, at the break.
The Lions connected on just 5-13 free throws in the game’s second quarter, failing to get their deficit into single digits at halftime.
The Braves ultimately took total control of the game in the third period, putting 20 points on the scoreboard and holding the Lions to only five – a Morris hoop, plus a Jacob Tudor basket and free throw.
The Lions committed 32 turnovers, Annawan 14.
Morris fouled out of the game, late, with 20 points on 9-16 shooting from the field to lead LaMoille/Ohio in scoring. Morris added 10 rebounds. Julian Gonzalez put in 10 tallies for the hosts.
Annawan got 20 points from Grant Baele, while Austin Bitting added 12 points for the Braves (2-8). Ben Foster and Mike Smith evenly split 16 rebounds.
• A steal and a layup by Jacob Tudor (12 points) with 14 seconds remaining lifted the LaMoille/Ohio frosh-soph squad to a thrilling, 38-37 win.
L/O ultimately rallied from a 10-2 deficit early, but trailed 12-6 after one period and still 20-16 at the half. Josh Gross (10 points) gave the Lions a 26-24 lead entering the final frame when he hooped off his own offensive rebound with 2:12 to go in the third quarter.
Tracer Mills went 5-7 from the floor to pitch in 10 points for the F/S winners.
