Anna Mae Bright-Dyer

PRINCETON — Anna Mae Bright-Dyer, 91 and 20 days, formerly of Sheffield, passed away at 8 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Colonial Hall in Princeton.

She was born Dec. 1, 1921. She was the sixth and youngest child of William Jacob Shofner and Nancy Ermine Purvis Shofner in Buffalo, Ky.

She attended Sheffield schools. She married Deward Bright March 29, 1941, in Hodgenville, Ky. He preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 1992. She then married William (Carl) Dyer in Princeton. He preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 2000.

In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Eva Mae (Flaherty) Shofner, Elbert and LouElla (Underwood) Shofner, and Otis and Goldie (Dutro) Shofner; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lizzie B and Jack McDonald, and Kay and Warren Lange; and 10 nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Louise and John Frank of Wyanet; a granddaughter, Brenda Frank of Ladd; a grandson and his wife, Brian and Dawn Frank of Wyanet; seven great-grandchildren, Cooper, Tyler J., Evan and Ethan Frank, and Tyler D., Dallas and Alyssa Duckworth, all of Wyanet; four nieces, Alice Shofner, Carol Roberson, Marla Shureb and Rita Wolf; and one nephew, Neil Shofner.

She and her husband Deward were co-founders, with Clarence and Peggy VanLoo, of the food commodity giveaway in Sheffield, picking food items up in Peoria regularly for distribution out of Concord Town Hall.

Anna loved her home in Sheffield, her roots and family members in Kentucky, camping, country music, knitting and crocheting, teaching her grandchildren to ride bikes and taking bike rides with them when they were small.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, followed by graveside services at Forest Hill Cemetery, Wyanet, with Rev. Tom Odell officiating.

Pallbearers are Brian Frank, Cooper Frank, Tyler Duckworth, Dallas Duckworth, Tyler Frank, Evan Frank and Ethan Frank. Honorary pallbearer is John Frank.

Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice of charity.
