Special Olympics competition set Saturday

PRINCETON — Starved Rock Area Special Olympics will host a district cross country ski and snowshoe competition at the Bureau Country Fairgrounds on Saturday. Competition will begin immediately following a brief opening ceremony to be held at 9:45 a.m.

Ninety Special Olympic athletes, representing 15 agencies from central and northern Illinois, including Princeton High School and Gateway Center of Princeton, will compete in a variety of cross country ski and snowshoe events. The public is invited to attend.

Starved Rock Area athletes will also compete in an alpine skiing competition Tuesday at the Snow Star in Andalusia and speed skating competition Saturday in Franklin Park. Gold medal winners from both events will advance to the Illinois State Winter Games to be held Jan. 29-31 at Chestnut Mountain Resort in Galena.
