More contested races announced

With the candidate filing period now ended for the April 9, 2013, election, Bureau County registered voters are getting their first look at their candidates, including some newcomers and some incumbents who aren’t running for another term.

As reported earlier in the Bureau County Republican, Bureau County voters will decide 20 mayoral positions, 10 city/village clerk positions, one city treasurer and approximately 70 village board trustee/commissioner/aldermen positions in the April election.

Recapping the available candidate lists already published in the BCR, incumbent mayors Cliff Banks of Spring Valley, Randy Philhower of Tiskilwa and Bruce Hand of Wyanet are facing contested races. The village of Bureau Junction will also have a contested mayoral race, but between two newcomers — Timothy Shipp and Thomas Hollingsworth, as current mayor Rodney Crowther is not seeking re-election
