Gail Greene

Born in Omaha, Neb., to Dr. David and Lenore Findley, Gail Greene graduated with honors from Monticello College, Alton, and earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from the Northwestern University Evanston Hospital School of Nursing. She married the Rev. Richard W. Greene on May 18, 1963.

Gail's professional resume included a teaching post at Illinois Valley Community College, Oglesby; staff position at Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital, Chicago; and more recently as executive director of In-Home Care, Princeton.

In her 23-year tenure as chief administrator of In-Home Care/VNA, Mrs. Greene developed a network of cooperative working relationships with health care providers throughout the area, and served on numerous  regional and national boards — among them, the National Association for Homecare and Hospice, Visiting Nurse Association of America and the Illinois Homecare Council. She also served on the Illinois Department of Public Health Home Care Advisory Committee and the Illinois Attorney General's Advisory Committee on Senior Issues. In 2005, she was honored with the prestigious Helen Heyrman Award which recognizes an individual in the home healthcare field whose service has demonstrated an exemplary level of excellence and leadership.

In addition to her professional commitments, Gail was an active member of Rotary International and was named its Citizen of the Year. She also served on the board of the Princeton Area United Way. A life-long Episcopalian, she was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Dixon, where she served on the Altar Guild and was a member of the church choir. She also derived great pleasure from her participation in the Canterbury Singers, Dixon.

Gail's happiest moments were spent in the company of her children and their families: David and Emily Greene, Ethan, Molly and Sophie of St. Charles; Dr. Anthony and Krista Greene, Jude and Gemma of Green Bay, Wis.; and the Very Rev. Michael and Hope Greene, Aidan and Miriam of Eau Claire, Wis. Gail is also survived by her sister, Janet (Peter) Brethauer of Waukesha, Wis.
