Princeton library announces upcoming events
PRINCETON — The Princeton Public Library will host a possible murderess, a creative writing workshop and the ever-popular Friends of the Library Book Sale during the week of Jan. 14.
The doings begin at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 15. A young woman named Lizzie Borden was accused of murdering her stepmother and father on Aug. 4, 1892. To the surprise of many, Lizzie was acquitted. Over a century later, there is still much speculation about the case. What could be better than to hear the story from Lizzie herself? Did she do it? You be the judge! Bringing Lizzie Borden to life for this storytelling session will be Tricia Kelly, tour director at the Hegeler Carus Mansion in LaSalle and a popular storyteller around the Illinois Valley. She was last seen at the Princeton Public Library talking about “The Jekyll & Hyde Life of Robert Louis Stevenson” in October 2011.
For writers (or those interested in becoming writers), the library will host another session of “Playing with Words,” a creative writing workshop, at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 17. Writers of any level and age are welcome to participate. The workshop will include a number of writing exercises and games aimed at promoting creativity and having fun with the writing process. Paper and writing utensils will be provided, but writers are welcome to bring a laptop or their own notebook and favorite writing implement.
