Cherry pays off fire truck

CHERRY — Taxpayers in Cherry are going to see a little relief on their property tax bills.
In December, the village made the final payment on a 15-year, $100,000 bond issue for a new fire truck for the village’s fire department.

Cherry Fire Chief Jim Hoscheid said that long-ago purchase of the truck made the department’s work easier and safer. It also benefitted the public by lowering the village’s Insurance Services Office (ISO) Fire Protection rating. Hoscheid said insurance companies base their rates in part on a village’s ISO rating, so the lower rating has saved businesses and homeowners money for the past 15 years.
