Dean, Lady Bruins post up Lady Devils

PERU — St. Bede and Spring Valley Hall’s ladies met Saturday night in a non-conference matchup. The Lady Bruins worked their game plan early and often, feeding senior center Mo Dean the ball down in the paint and letting her lay it in the hoop. In the end, St. Bede won 66-24 and Dean had garnered a game leading 20 points.

Asked about his plan to use the post, Lady Bruins coach Tom McGunnigal said, “We felt we had an advantage in there. I thought they’d come in with a little bit of a 2-3 zone, and I told the girls you can’t just stand out on the perimeter and bomb all night figuring you were going to do something good. We stayed with our offense. Moved (and) dribble penetrated with the ball. We especially stuck with our defense and tried to get some points off of that. We had nice bounce and good distribution.”

St. Bede’s second highest scorer was Whitley Funfsinn with 16 points. The Lady Bruins’ Raley Mauck, Haley Dzierzynski and Lydia Stariha assisted the effort with 10 points each.
