Lee Walters

PRINCETON — Lee R. Walters, 85, of Princeton passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle.

Born Oct. 3, 1927, in Princeton to Benjamin and Martha (Dye) Walters, he married Margaret Poff Jan. 7, 1951, in Bradford. She preceded him in death. He then married Marjorie Etheridge Borges Dec. 17, 1977. She survives.

He graduated from Tiskilwa High School in 1945. He joined the Illinois National Guard and served from 1948 to 1954 as a staff sergeant for the 179th Infantry, 45th Division. He served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1953.

He was a self-employed accountant at Walters Tax Service as well as an electrician with Bates and Walters Plumbing and Heating. He also worked for Kraft Foods. He was an assistant pastor with the Harmon Christian Assembly. He was a member of the Tiskilwa Lions Club, was a past Tiskilwa School Board president in 1975 and an amateur Ham Radio operator.

Also surviving are five children, Kimber (Cal) Swanson of Urbana, Justin (Jan) Walters of Princeton, Tom (Kathy) Borges of Washington, Kevin (Sandy) Borges of Princeton and Susan (Ted) Roberts of Princeton; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Norberg Memorial Home, Princeton, with Pastor Laura Root officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
