Princeton DAR seeks graves of War of 1812 veterans related to local Chapter members

PRINCETON — The Princeton-Illinois Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution met Dec. 7 at the Princeton Public Library
Members played the War of 1812 bingo game.
Regent Sharon Bittner led the chapter opening ritual with Juanita Tarrence leading the U.S. flag ceremony.
Conservation Chairman Diana Williamson displayed and reported on the different types of light bulbs available to the consumer.
The chapter observed a time of silence in remembrance of Pearl Harbor Day.
John Blake, veteran of the War of 1812, buried at Wyanet Cemetery, was found to be part of a chapter member’s family. The chapter is looking for other War of 1812 veterans buried locally who are related to a chapter DAR member.
The chapter voted to support a DAR resolution to assist in the repair of Fort Massac.
Bittner presented a War of 1812 book, “The Town that Fooled the British,” by Lisa Papp, to Princeton Public Library’s children’s librarian Connie Kauffman.
The chapter presented the book “Illinois in the War of 1812,” by Gillum Ferguson, to the Princeton High School Library on Dec. 13. PHS librarian Renee Kozeal, history teacher Elaine McVety and D.A.R. American history winner Andrew Burkey accepted the book for the school.
Prior to the December meeting, members attended the presentation of the Illinois state flag by Rep. Donald L. Moffitt.
The DAR Library Lay Light Restoration Campaign DVD was viewed by the chapter.
Evalynn Blanco presented her family history of the “Battle of the Hemp Bales,” which occurred during the Civil War.
