Officers recognized
PRINCETON — The Princeton City Council has recognized two local police officers for their recent accomplishments.
At Monday’s council meeting at Princeton City Hall, Princeton Police Chief Tom Root announced the promotion of Christopher Erickson to the position of sergeant. Erickson began his law enforcement work in 2004 as a part-time police officer for Walnut. He graduated from the Illinois Police Academy in 2005 and was hired as a full-time officer with the Princeton Police Department in 2008. Erickson has come a long way through the years, Root said.
Root also introduced and congratulated Dustin Schaill on receiving his state certificate as a fully-qualified law enforcement officer. Schaill became a part-time officer for the Princeton Police Department in January 2012 and went immediately into the basic law enforcement training program, graduating in October. He was able to do his internship with the Princeton Police Department through Illinois Valley Community College. In time, he hopes to bring Schaill onto the force full-time, Root said.
In other business at Monday’s meeting, Commissioner Bob Warren presented a request from an outside consulting firm offering to do a professional evaluation of Princeton’s city manager, Jeff Clawson. The cost of the evaluation process would be about $1,600 for an in-person interview or about $950 for an email or telephone interview.
Commissioner Joel Quiram said the people most qualified to do an evaluation of the city manager would be the people who hired him, which was the city council.
Commissioner Terry Madsen agreed, saying the cost of the outside evaluation isn’t a lot of money, but that money could still be used elsewhere by the city.
Mayor Keith Cain said the city is very happy with the new city manager, and he saw no reason for an outside evaluation.
Warren said he had no strong feelings about the outside firm’s request, but was simply presenting it for consideration.
The council agreed to not move forward with the evaluation proposal.
Also, Warren presented the building permit statistics for December and for the 2012 year.
Warren said the city issued one residential building permit in December at a value of $4,700, and one commercial/industrial building permit at value of $150,000. Total numbers for 2012 were 74 building permits issued at a value of $4,768,7997.
In comparing the 2012 numbers to the last couple years, information presented by Warren showed the city issued a total of 103 building permits in 2011 at a value of $21,145,111, which included $16,967,000 for the city’s new water plant. For the 2010 year, the city issued a total of 101 building permits at a value of $4,464,883.
