DALZELL — Dalzell residents will see new entrance signs coming into the village after an unnerving experience with solicitors visiting homes after dark.

“We were getting calls,” Dalzell Village President Gloria Orlandi said. “It was dark, and people were knocking on doors. They were scared.”

The village called the sheriff’s department which sent an officer, but he couldn’t enforce the town’s ordinances. The new signs not only will have a welcoming message, but also state there is no soliciting in the town without a permit.

There will be three signs placed on roads coming into the city, but the design and wordage of the signs have not been determined.

In other business:

• The board passed an ordinance adopting the zoning map effective Jan. 1 as well as approving the tax increment financing reimbursement amounts.

• The village will replace three fire hydrants. An inspection showed two of the hydrants were too old to repair, since parts can’t be found. The other hydrant will not open. Many of the hydrants in the city are more than 45 years old.
