BCGS will present ‘Little Germanies’
PRINCETON — The Bureau County Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Society library located at 629 S. Main St. in Princeton.
The program for the evening will be a video presentation titled “Little Germanies.”
These were cities or towns settled across America that provided for the needs of immigrant Germans. Two families are featured in the video and represent both ends of the economic spectrum, one being the Steinweg family of Steinway & Sons, and one being the Gumpertz family settling in the slums of New York’s Little Germany.
The public is invited to attend this program and learn what life was like as these families and others adapted to the New World. All programs are free.
For more information, call 815-879-3133 or stop by the library during the hours of operation — 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, or the first Saturday of each month.
