COLUMBUS, Ohio — Three Illinois Valley Community College students were awarded a bachelor’s degree at a commencement ceremony Jan. 6.

However, the degrees awarded were not from IVCC, but rather from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio.

Janell Blanco of Spring Valley received a bachelor’s degree in public safety management, Jamie Grant of Streator received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and Jeremie Hutchens of Flora received a bachelor’s degree in allied healthcare management.

The three completed their bachelor degrees by participating in an educational alliance between Illinois Valley Community College and Franklin University. The bachelor’s degree completion program allows students in the United States to combine on campus coursework at their local community college with online classes through Franklin University to complete their degree.
