PRINCETON — Today, Thursday, Playing with Words: Creative Writing Workshop will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Princeton Public Library.
On Monday, the library will be closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
On Tuesday, preschool story hour will take place, and the theme will be mittens; Talk About: History for Kids Presents: Mistakes Happen: A Historical Guide to Overcoming Adversity will be presented at 6:30 p.m.
On Jan. 24, Talk About: Survival Skills in the Wild will be presented by Jason Thompson at 6:30 p.m.
WYANET — The Raymond A. Sapp library’s January book group will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 in the adult collection room. The group is reading Irving Wallace’s “The Man.” Written in 1964, the book’s premise runs parallel to the assassination of John F. Kennedy with a twist. The public is welcome to read the book and join in the sure to be lively discussion.
WALNUT — Winter Adult Enrichment Classes have been scheduled at the Walnut Public Library. All classes are on Saturdays beginning at 9:30 a.m. The cost of the classes will be kept at $10. If the cost is more than $10, it will be noted. All classes will be held at the library, except for the CPR Class. Payment for the class must be made at the time you reserve your spot. You can send your reservation payment to Walnut Public Library, P.O. Box 728, Walnut, IL 61376-0728, or just stop in at 101 Heaton in Walnut.
Classes are:
• Jan. 26: Loom Knitting Class — Learn how to cast on the loom, stocking stitch and pearl stitch. You would need to provide your own looms and yarn. You will be making a scarf and matching hat.
• Feb. 9: Wood Carving — Learn basic wood carving techniques making a Wood Spirit. All materials will be provided.
• Feb. 23: Paper Bead Class — The class will be making a variety of beads, sizes and shapes and techniques for stringing the beads to make jewelry. All materials will be provided.
• March 9: CPR Class — The price for this class will be $30 for one person, $40 for couples. This class will be held at the Walnut Community Building, 129 S. Main St. If you need certification or to be re-certified, this class is for you.
More classes are being planned, so check back to this spot often to see what’s new.
The staff is also available to help anyone learn computer basics, Internet, email, eBay - just call with your needs.
Also, a chili luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Walnut Community Center, 129 S. Main St. The library needs to replace the furnace this winter. Advanced ticket sales are available at Citizen’s First State Bank, First Federal Bank and Walnut Public Library. Children 0-5 are free; ages 6-12 $4; ages 13-adult $6; and seniors 60 and over $4.
TISKILWA — The next book club/dinner discussion at the Tiskilwa Public Library will take place at 5:30 p.m. Monday. “The Chaperone” by Laura Moriarty is inspired by the life of silent-film star Louise Brooks. It is the story of two women who could not be more different, and the summer that changed them both.
SPRING VALLEY — Story time is held every Tuesday from 5:30 until 6 p.m. in the children’s room at the Richard A. Mautino Memorial Library. There is a story and a craft-related project during this time for preschool children through second grade. A parent must accompany their child. This is free of charge.
The library is collecting aluminum cans with the proceeds going to the support of the library. The cans may be dropped off at the library during the hours of operation, which are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Wednesday; 2 to 7 p.m., Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday. The cans should be tied in a plastic bag and placed in the large box inside the west front door. People living in Webster Park may drop off their bags of cans at 202 Elm St. in the driveway. The library board meets at 8 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month.
LADD — The Ladd Public Library continues to hold its pre-school story times on the first and third Monday of each month at 10:30 a.m.
OHIO — The Ohio Public Library will host the Bureau County Farm Bureau at p.m. Wednesday as they present their program on sheep at the library. Participants will perform activities dealing with sheep. Snacks will be provided.
There are a number of new children’s books now at the library. These titles include “Where Do Diggers Sleep at Night?” by Brianna Sayres; “Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site” by Sherri Rinker; “Little Blue Truck” by Alice Schertle; “The Goodnight Train” by June Sobel; “Kiss Good Night” by Amy Hest; “I Would Tuck You In” by Sarah Asper-Smith; “Don’t You Feel Well Sam?” by Amy Hest; and “My Truck Is Stuck!” by Kevin Lewis.
This spring, the library will not be selling Butter Braids as a fundraiser.
LAMOILLE — Computer classes continue at the LaMoille-Clarion Public Library. Classes are offered on Monday and Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. and Tuesday evening at 5:15 p.m. Each class lasts about one hour. A reminder the library has the A to Z the USA and A to Z the World databases for those students currently working on history and geography projects.
LaMoille Cub Scout Pack 4059 will show the movie “Down and Derby” at the library at 10 a.m. Saturday. All are welcome to attend, and snacks will be provided.
