Looking for a new home?

DIXON – There is still time to place a bid on the primary residence belonging to disgraced comptroller Rita Crundwell.

So far, the U.S. Marshals Service has received an unsolicited offer of $350,000 for the home at 1679 U.S. Route 52. Counteroffers are due by 2 p.m. Jan. 25.

An open house for interested buyers will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

The buyer must pay $12,008.14 in real estate taxes.

The home is one of two properties left to be sold as restitution for the nearly $54 million Crundwell admitted to stealing from the city since 1990. No offers have been made on Crundwell’s vacation home in Englewood, Fla.

The 60-year-old will be sentenced Feb. 14 and faces up to 20 years in prison for wire fraud. She also is charged with 60 counts of theft in Lee County and has a status hearing March 4.

Since her April 17 arrest at City Hall, Crundwell has been cooperating with marshals in agreeing to allow them to sell her assets. Her herd of 400 horses, a luxury motor home, horse equipment, pickups, trailers, home furnishings – all have been sold, netting about $8 million.

Marshals also have said they have entered into contracts with buyers totaling more than $3 million for three of her five properties and about 81 acres of farmland – for more than $3 million.

Closings are expected within the next 30 to 45 days. Marshals are not releasing the identity of the buyers or the sale prices.

Also left to be sold is Crundwell’s jewelry. An auction date has not yet been set.
