Top seeds win TCC girls openers

The top-seeded teams all advanced in the opening round of the 2013 Tri-County Conference girls’ basketball tournament Saturday at Ottawa Marquette.

No. 2 Putnam County bounced No. 7 Henry 58-21 behind Daniela Pavlovich who scored 20 points. Emma Cluskey led the Lady Mallards with 11 points.

The Hall Lady Devils played No. 3 Ottawa Marquette to a 23-15 halftime game, but the host Lady Cru cruised with a 33-21 second half to post a 56-39 win. Ellen and Becca Herrmann each scored nine points and Bekka Dagraedt added eight for the Lady Devils. Marquette was led by Alice Salt (17) and Kendall Kaufman (14).

No. 1 Peoria Christian rolled past DePue 64-12.

Consolation bracket play Wednesday will have DePue facing Midland at 6 p.m. followed by Hall vs. Henry.

Prophetstown 72, Bureau Valley 34: The Lady Prophets jumped out on a 32-5 first-quarter and breezed to a Three Rivers Conference win Saturday. Krista Naaktgeboren led the Storm with 13 points, connecting on three three-pointers. Nicole Bornsheuer added eight points.

Bishop McNamara 57, St. Bede 45: Mo Dean led the Lady Bruins with 19 points in defeat Friday in Kankakee.
