Vandals sought in Spring Valley

SPRING VALLEY — Vandals struck on the south side of Spring Valley Thursday evening, damaging the drivers’ side mirrors on at least nine vehicles.

Police Chief Kevin Sangston said the first call came in after 7:30 p.m.

“Somebody heard something and went outside and saw a vehicle driving away,” Sangston said.

All of the vehicles were parked on the street in the 300 block of South Greenwood Street, the 300 block of East Devlin Street, the 400 block of East St. Paul Street and the 500 block of East Cleveland Street. The drivers’ side mirrors were struck with some kind of object and broken. Nothing was reported stolen.

Sangston said police believe all the incidents are related.

Anyone with information is asked to call the department at 815-663-2351. Callers can also remain anonymous and call Illinois Valley Crimestoppers at 800-340-4045. A cash reward of up to $1,000 is available for information leading to an arrest.

Sangston said there was no good description of the vehicle, and he hopes someone from the public steps forward with information.

“It’s frustrating,” he said. “There’s very little information to go on.”
