In just a couple days, you can sit down and enjoy a great meal at the annual Bureau Creek Gobblers Hunting Heritage Banquet. This is coming up Saturday and will be held at the Met. Lucky participants will dine on ribeye and/or pork chops along with the usual sides.

I attended the committee meeting and was really impressed with the quality and amounts of prizes that will be available in this year’s banquet package. Beautiful artwork, furniture, knives, and interesting sculptures will highlight this year’s auction.

There will also be at least eight guns featured in the night’s action. Two of them especially caught my eye. The first one was the B.C. Gobblers pre-banquet gun raffle This features a Remington 870 Express Super Magnum 3 1/2 inch, 12-gauge with a 28-inch barrel with vent rib.

The second gun will be the 2013 NWTF Gun of the Year. This gun is the Browning Silver 12-gauge automatic with a 28-inch barrel. This one is a real beauty.

So mark Jan. 26 on your calendar so you will support this fine organization and also get a chance to win some great prizes. The doors open a 5:30 p.m. with the dinner at 7 p.m.

See you there.

• Recently, the PHS Sportsman’s Club travelled over to Time on the Water in Spring Valley to practice archery in their indoor range. The young archers got their bows ready and were soon shooting the targets at 20 yards. Now a couple of the guys were in a heated battle to see who could get the most bullseyes and the girls were on the other side of the range shooting at an equal pace.

I found a nice chair and was enjoying the young archers and was a little surprised that boys or girls, it didn’t matter, were getting most of their arrows in the bullseye. Then I noticed that two girls had crossbows. I was happy to see that one dad in our group was helping the ladies with their crossbows. This was great because I have no previous experience with crossbows and he was doing a great job.
