Lady Lions post first win in LTC
The LaMoille/Ohio Lady Lions notched their first win of the season Monday, defeating Leland/Earlville 45-32 in the opening night of the Little Ten Conference Tournament at Ottawa Marquette.
“This was a big win. The girls played as a team,” L/O coach Dick Gross said.
“Shiela Browning led all scorers with 17 points and L/O teammate Kaitlyn Hughes turned in a double-double with 12 points and 20 rebounds. Other contributors were Stefanie Ridge (7) and Myrah Graham (6), who contributed 13 points, and Elizabeth Geuther (14 rebounds).
Newark 57, L/O 30: Browning had 10 points and Graham nine as the Lady Lions fell to the top-seeded Norsemen Tuesday. No. 4 Indian Creek needed overtime to trip No. 5 Somonauk 48-45 Tuesday.
• TCC girls: No. 3 seed Ottawa Marquette worked its home court magic in Bader Gym Monday, defeating No. 2 seed Putnam County 49-43. The Cru rallied from a 21-9 second-quarter deficit behind Alice Salt (15) and Marissa Gama (13), who combined for 28 points.
PC was led by Carly Gonet (12) and Daniela Pavlovich (11).
Marquette will face top-seeded Peoria Christian, a 51-28 winner over No. 4 R-B/LW, in Thursday’s championship game at 8 p.m. Christian was a 52-26 winner when the teams met in late November.
PC and R-B/LW will meet at 6:30 p.m. for third place.
St. Bede 68, Roanoke-Benson 60: The Bruins rode the 1-2 punch of Joe Pyszka (16 points) and Brad Groleau (15) to a conference win on the road Tuesday.
Princeton 51, St. Bede 45: Skye Behrends had 15 points and Levi Bates 11 for the Tigers on Tuesday. Max Moskalwicz led the Bruins with 11.
Junior high basketball
SRC Tournament: The Princeton Logan Lions beat Spring Valley JFK 59-32 in Thursday’s semifinals the Starved Rock Conference Tournament at Streator. Josh Reinhardt led Logan with 17 points and Christian Parry added 12.
The undefeated Lions will play Ottawa at 6:30 p.m. Thursday for the championship, looking to send longtime coach Rick Kamrath into a happy retirement. Ottawa was a 35-32 winner over Mendota.
