Kamrath, Lions cap 15-0 season with SRC title

STREATOR – The Princeton Logan Lions sent longtime coach Rick Kamrath into a happy retirement, claiming the seventh-grade Starved Rock Elementary Conference Tournament championship Thursday night.

In downing the Ottawa Rams in decisive fashion, 58-24, Kam-rath’s Lions also capped a 15-0 season,

Garrett Allen paced the Lions with 23 points and 18 rebounds. Christian Parry came next with nine points, while Brett Schenck added eight.

Ottawa connected on only 11-52 shots from the field, while the victorious Lions’ entire roster poured it on with 31 second-half points.

In the nightcap, the top-seeded Ottawa Shepherd Rams, up by as many as 14 points with only four minutes to go in the game, held on to defeat the upset-minded, No. 3 Mendota Northbrook Spartans, 53-51 in the eighth-grade championship game.

McKe Tucker poured in 22 points in the Rams’ eighth-grade championship run. Mendota’s Joe LaShonse countered with a game-high 26 points.

Mendota claimed third place in the seventh-grade tournament, defeating Spring Valley JFK, 46-16.

Peru Parkside posting a 42-39 win over LaSalle Lincoln in the eighth-grade third-place contest.

• Logan hosts its annual Coates Invite volleyball tournament on Saturday.
